Planning Your Medical Aesthetic Treatments Before An Event

Spring has sprung, and that means event season is right around the corner! Grads, proms, weddings, vacations, the list goes on. So if there was ever a time to look your best, it’s now.

Luckily, looking picture-perfect has never been easier, thanks to the variety of treatments available at Basis. Follow this guide to plan your treatments to look your best for all upcoming events!

Basis Custom Facial

What is it? Our Basis custom facial is a personalized medical-grade treatment tailored to your specific skin concerns and goals. Skin concerns, such as aging, dullness, redness, sensitivity, and acne, are treated using expertly selected, professional-level strength ZO Skin Health products that are not available at the retail level.

Healing Process: Following your custom facial your skin will feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and hydrated- you will be glowing! Immediately after the treatment, there may be some isolated redness if extractions were performed, but generally this resolves within a couple of hours. After all, this was originally named the “Red Carpet Facial” by the ZO Skin Health founder, Dr. Zein Obagi. This facial is often performed on celebrities before hair and makeup on the day of an event.

When to Book: For optimal results, schedule your custom facial 1-2 days before your event to allow your skin to absorb the benefits fully. If you are working towards a specific goal with your skin, one facial per week for the six weeks leading up you your event is perfect (and we have packages for that!)

Cosmetic Botox & Dysport

What is it? Botox and Dysport are popular choices for preventing aging. Administered via minimally invasive injections, they temporarily relax muscles to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, particularly in areas like the forehead, crow's feet, and frown lines between the eyebrows. This treatment aids in a smooth skin texture in addition to preventing and correcting lines and wrinkles.

Healing Process: You can expect to go on about your day as usual but avoid massages, facials for the next week, and do not lay flat, exercise heavily or practice yoga for four hours following treatment. In remote cases, minor bruising or swelling at the injection sites can occur.

When to Book: It is recommended that you are treated 3 months before your event if you are new to this treatment, and then again 4 weeks prior to the big day. This treatment only takes two weeks to set in fully, but in the case that we wish to tweak anything we should have an additional two weeks for the follow-up treatment to set in.

Therapeutic Botox & Dysport

What is it? Botox and Dysport aren't just for cosmetic treatments; they're also used therapeutically to treat medical conditions such as chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), jaw clenching/grinding and chronic facial twitch (blepharospasm).

Healing Process: Same as cosmetic Botox (above).

When to Book: Same as cosmetic Botox (above).

Skinboosters

What are they? Skinboosters are injectable hyaluronic acid treatments that hydrate, plump, and improve skin texture, leaving you with a natural, dewy glow. We also love using Skinboosters to fill in stubborn lines, such as “smokers lines” around the mouth and sleep lines above the eyebrows.

Healing Process: Following your skin booster treatment, you may experience minor redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, but downtime is typically minimal. Skinboosters work as they incorporate into the dermis, and this takes some time. Depending on the area being treated, 2- 4 weeks is common for the full effects of one syringe. Keep in mind, it is often recommended to treat the area 2-3 times for best results 2-6 weeks apart.

When to Book: To see the full benefits of your Skinboosters treatment, schedule your first treatment 6-12 weeks before your event to allow time for repeat treatments if necessary. A complimentary consultation is always a good idea to formulate a specific timeline for your treatment plan.

Dermal Fillers

What is it? Dermal fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid gels that restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. We use Restylane, as it comes in a range of consistencies and technology to address specific areas such as lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds.

Healing Process: You may experience temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites. The treated heals within 4-7 days.

When to Book: Schedule your appointment 2-4 weeks before your event to allow for any swelling or bruising to diminish, and to allow time for touch-ups if necessary.

Belkyra

What is it? Belkyra (also known as Kybella) is the only Health Canada-approved injectable treatment designed to reduce submental (double-chin) fat, creating a more contoured jawline.

Healing Process: Swelling, bruising, tenderness, and numbness in the treatment area are common as the adipose tissue dissolves. The healing process take 4-6 weeks.

When to Book: On average, Belkyra candidates require 3 treatments but can take up to ten treatments. Each treatment must be spaced at least 6 weeks apart. If this is a treatment you are considering it is ideal to start at least one year before your end date goal.

Microneedling with PRP

What is it? Microneedling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) uses tiny sterile needles to create micro-injuries in the dermis, coupled with the application of your very own PRP growth factors to aid in collagen production (plumping and resurfacing), skin renewal, and hydration.

Healing Process: Immediately after the procedure the treated area with be red, and may feel tender or tight. Depending on the package purchased, you will likely be sent home with medical-grade products for comfort and to expedite healing. Swelling and minor peeling is common for a few days following treatment. It is very important to stay out of the sun, refrain from applying makeup and avoid hot tubs/steam rooms.

When to Book: Schedule your appointment 2 weeks before your event to allow time for any redness or peeling to resolve, with noticeable improvement typically seen within the first couple of weeks post treatment. In most cased we recommend 3 treatments 4-6 weeks apart for best results, so keep this in mind when considering this treatment.

Hair Growth & Restoration

What is it? Our hair restoration treatments integrate minimally-invasive mechanical stimulation, microneedling, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) infusion, and pharmacologic agents to rejuvenate hair follicles to foster new, healthier hair growth.

Healing Process: There is no downtime associated with these treatments, though you may experience temporary redness or irritation.

When to Book: Plan your treatment 3-4 months before your event for optimal results, as 8 weekly sessions are required, and topical and potentially oral supplements will be recommended to achieve desired hair growth and thickness.
